Mobile utility studio · Est. MMXXVI
Compounding.
We are a small studio for the unsexy compounding work behind a small mobile utility app. Cleaners. VPN. Scanners. Converters. Privacy. Battery & device. Most apps that age well do so because the team holding them keeps doing the same five things, on a written cadence, for long enough that version four starts paying version one back. We help with the holding-to.
The shape we are working toward. Versions one through three look like nothing. Version five is the start of why we did it.
Chapter 01 — what this is
The slow part of
a small app.
Most small mobile utility apps that age well are doing roughly five unglamorous things very consistently. A first-run path the user can complete without thinking. A small set of features the team will defend in writing. A monthly release cadence that does not break for August. A cleaner that does one cleanup well, or a scanner that respects the source. A dashboard the developer can read in two minutes. None of these are interesting in version one.
We are good at the slow part of all of this. Most of the work in our category is not the brilliant idea — it is the discipline to keep the brilliant idea narrow long enough that version four starts paying version one back. We organise the studio around that fact: short engagements, long calendars, written briefs, no theatre.
We work with publishing partners that have already shipped a category once, or are confident in one they want to occupy. They want a small, well-built thing rather than a big, half-built one. If that is roughly the shape of your project, the next page is the right one.
“The interesting decisions are interesting to make once, then need to be held to for a year. Boring is a feature.”
Chapter 02 — categories
Six categories
we ship in.
